The Montmorency Community Group - is local people getting together to build a happier, more connected and more sustainable and resilient local community.

We do this through:
  • Awareness raising activities for the public
  • •Developing strong networks to create a more inclusive community,
  • Undertaking practical projects to reduce our impact on the planet and
  • Promoting the well being of local residents.

The Montmorency Community Group is guided by principles of social justice, the valuing of differences, a respect for all views and personal and community empowerment, and principles embedded in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and The Earth Charter.

MCG is part of the world-wide Transition Towns movement, which is actively and cooperatively creating more connected and sustainable neighbourhoods, towns and cities.  The Transition Town model is designed to help address the challenges brought about by climate change and peak oil. The movement is filled with optimism and we see the future with greatly reduced energy consumption as an exciting challenge. For more information about Transition Towns, you can go to: https://www.transitionnetwork.org/support/what-transition-initiative.    You can find other local groups in the City of Banyule here-  https://transitionaustralia.net/site/transition-banyule/

Montmorency Community Group is a grass-roots, non-profit organisation creating a positive vision for the future, where we can form close community ties, and network with the myriad of environmental organisations, and work with local Councils and businesses to accelerate the pace of change we must make, in order to effectively tackle the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change.

The global Transition movement has sprung from the work of Rob Hopkins, who is a Permaculture Teacher who became aware of the Peak Oil and Climate Change challenges. He motivated his school students in Kinsale, Ireland, to develop the first Energy Descent Plan for their region, and this has inspired hundreds of global communities to follow his approach. Here is a recent presentation from Rob.

Permaculture Hunter Region Inc is working closely with TTN while maintaining their identity and being very active in working on the ground with Community Gardens, Training Courses and Seminars.

Montmorency Community Group invites fellow travellers to join us on this journey to more effectively spread the word and action on the necessary transition to a sustainable low-carbon, relocalised economy where possible, with a positive vision of more friendly, involved, socially equitable and supportive communities, within a safe environment and climate.

We have a committee with members who work and live around Montmorency, and we are gathering resources to assist local areas to start their own Transition Initiatives.
